October 22, 2008 SIUE Names Joe Pott as Assistant to the Athletic Director for Broadcasting EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Call him the new voice of the Cougars. Joe Pott has been named the Assistant to the Athletic Director for Broadcasting, according to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Director of Athletics Dr. Brad Hewitt. "We are very excited to have Joe join Cougar Athletics. Joe has had a wide variety of experience in broadcasting and will give us a consistent voice for SIUE Athletics," said Hewitt. Pott has been the radio play-by-play voice for the Gateway Grizzlies, a member of the Frontier League from Sauget, since 2002. The 2005 and 2006 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, he has served as a guest speaker and emcee at a number of public events promoting the baseball Grizzlies. "I am thrilled to be a part of the Cougar Athletics family during this historic time. It is a privilege for me to be able to bring these sports to the students, alumni and fans of SIUE. I thank Dr. Hewitt and everyone involved for making this possible," said Pott. The Assistant to the Athletic Director for broadcasting will assist in the administration of the intercollegiate athletic programs at SIUE. The position is responsible for developing the SIUE Cougar Broadcasting Network, play-by-play and event engineering duties, corporate sales, and overseeing activities associated with the Cougar Licensing Program. Pott was the play-by-play voice for the game of the week for football and basketball for Team 1380 and Fox Sports Radio 1490 in St. Louis from September 2007 to March 2008. He also worked as the voice of the Edwardsville Tigers during the 2003-2004 boy's basketball season. He earned a 2000 bachelor of arts in communication in 2000 from the University of Dayton, where he worked as an Athletics Communication Assistant as well as a play-by-play person for soccer and volleyball telecast for the Flyers.
