September 17, 2008 Cougars Travel to Illinois Intercollegiates EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's and women's cross country teams next travel to the Illinois Intercollegiates. SIUE assistant coach Eileen McAllister said both teams have been showing improvement in practices and looks for that to translate into a good showing this weekend in Normal. "We expect to run against the same caliber of runner we have seen in past races," said McAllister. Saturday's men's meet will be another 8,000 meter event. For the women's race, the course will be 5,000 meters. The women's race will start at 4:30 p.m. followed by the men's race at 5:15 p.m. The Cougars had to overcome humid weather conditions and a rain-soaked course in Charleston at the Panther Open. "Weather and humidity played was a big factor in the performance of our runners." McAllister said. "The rain affected the speed of the course." Top performers on the men's side for SIUE were Kyle Cameron who finished 21st with an overall time of 26 minutes, 36 seconds. Next was Marc Amarillas in 28th with a time of 27:04.20. On the women's side, Kayla Brown finished in fifth place with a time of 18:33.95 followed by Kelly Flounders in 18th a time of 19:46.73. "I look for Kayla to her to be competitive, McAlister said.
