Women’s Soccer Signs Three Local Recruits
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women’s soccer coach Lynda Bowers has announded the signing of Jennifer Kratzer (O’Fallon, Mo.), Kim Roady (Granite City) and Sara Stroud (Collinsville). All three will officially join the soccer program in the fall and will have four years of eligibilty.
During her junior year at Collinsville High School, Stroud earned All-State and All-Conference honors as a defender. She was also tabbed an All-Conference performer during her sophomore season.
“I coached Sara when she was 12 years old,” Bowers said. “She will compete for a spot in the sweeper position. She has good speed and good ball-handling skills, which will both be a real asset to our backfield.”
Roady is the starting goaltender on Granite City’s girls soccer team. She has registered four shutouts thus far on the year and has a 0.36 goals against average. She is one of five players from Granite City to sign on with a collegiate soccer team.
“Kim is technically sound goalkeeper who can command the backfield,” Bowers said. “That is something that we really need in a goalkeeper.”
Kratzer, a foward, is an All-State selection out of Trinity Catholic High School in St. Louis. So far this season, she is second with 23 points (7G, 9A) on a team ranked first in the AAA league standings.
“One of her greatest assests is her powerful left-footed shot,” Bowers said. “She has a very good work ethic and will be a fun freshman to watch. I expect her to come in and fight for a starting spot.”
The 2004 women’s soccer program kicks off Aug. 29 in a home game with Minnesota State - Mankato.
