Armstrong, Cougars Collar 'Hounds
Kristine Armstrong scored a pair of goals as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville downed Indianapolis 3-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference women's soccer on Friday night.
SIUE improved to 3-0 in the GLVC and 5-3 overall while Indianapolis fell to 2-4-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the GLVC.
Freshman goalkeeper Kim Roady recorded her third shutout of the season for SIUE with five saves.
Armstrong put the Cougars on top at 21:46 after Roady booted the ball past midfield. Her second goal of the season proved to be the eventual game-winner.
Ann Crawford, the GLVC's reigning Player of the Week, scored her fifth goal of the season unassisted from four yards out after slipping past an defender and Indianapolis' starting goalkeeper Kyle Race, who had to leave the field with an injury after the goal.
Armstrong added another insurance goal at 86:21 with an assist from Jackie Thomann.
Northern Kentucky, the GLVC preseason favorite, faces SIUE on Sunday. Game time is 2:30 p.m. at Korte Stadium.
