Second-Half Surge Powers Cougars
Southern Illinois University scored three unanswered goals in the second half for a 4-1 triumph over Lewis Uninversity in women's college soccer on Sunday.
SIUE matched its number of wins from a year ago and improved to 10-4 overall and 6-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Lewis fell to 2-10-1 and 0-6-1 in the GLVC.
The Cougars dominated play on both sides of the ball by outshooting the Flyers 27-6. SIUE goalkeepers Kim Roady and Jessica Brown had just one save.
SIUE opened the scoring in the first half as Kelly Dill scored off a corner kick from Angela Light at 22:56.
Lewis tied the game nearly four minutes into the second half as Caroline Kenny connected on an assist from Jenna Volpi.
That goal woke up the Cougar offense as Ann Crawford scored the eventual game-winning goal with an assist from Kristine Armstrong at 51:36. Christine Carducci scored an unassisted goal at 70:25. Crawford scored her second goal at 78:37 from Kayla Fromme.
It was the third time this season that Ann Crawford has posted multiple goals.
SIUE now turns its attention to Friday when the Cougars play Missouri-St. Louis at home in a 7:30 p.m. contest. ON Sunday, SIUE entertains Quincy at 2:30 p.m.
