Carducci, Cougars Blank UMSL
Christen Carbucci netted her second goal in as many games to lift Southern Illinois University Edwardsville past Missouri-St. Louis 1-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference women's college soccer on Friday night.
Carducci scored at the 19:55 mark to help SIUE improve to 11-4 overall and 7-1 in the GLVC. UMSL fell to 8-7-1 and 3-4-1 in the conference.
The Cougars came out firing getting nine shots in the first half which led them to a 20-6 advantage over the Riverwomen for the game.
SIUE goalkeepers Kim Roady and Jessica Brown combined for the shutout by making four saves. The pair now has nine shutouts on the season just one away from tying the school record of 10.
UMSL goalkeeper Danielle Troha made nine saves in the contest.
The Cougars will face Quincy in game two of a four-game homestand on Sunday at 3 p.m.
