SIUE’s Kampwerth Named All-Region
EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- Lindsey Kampwerth, a senior back from Highland, has been named second team All-Great Lakes Region by a vote of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Kampwerth was SIUE’s only representative on the All-Region team after playing a key role in the Cougar backfield this season. SIUE completed the season with a school record 17 victories.
“Lindsey is very deserving of this honor,” said SIUE Coach Lynda Bowers. “She was the rock of our backfield. She played consistent throughout the season.
SIUE’s defense allowed a goals against average of 0.91, giving up 21 goals in 23 games.
Kampwerth scored the game-winning goal in SIUE’s overtime victory over Lewis on October 7. Her ability to play as an attacking wingback gave Bowers many options on offense and defense.
“Her fitness level is unmatched,” said Bowers. “There were many times where we were able to move her up for another attacker.”
Along with the 17 wins, SIUE broke school records for shutouts (12) and consecutive victories (10).
