July 29, 2008 2008 Schedule SIUE Announces 2008 Women’s Soccer Schedule          EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Five Ohio Valley Conference opponents will be on the 2008 women’s soccer schedule for Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, according to first-year head coach Derek Burton.          SIUE will play 12 games against NCAA Division I opponents in its first year of reclassification to Division I play.          “The entire schedule is going to be a challenge. From our program’s perspective, every game is going to be difficult,” said Burton.          The Cougars open the exhibition season Saturday, Aug. 16 with the Red and White game at Korte Stadium. Game time is 1 p.m. SIUE also faces Missouri Valley College in a 4 p.m. exhibition game on Aug. 20.          SIUE’s opener is Sunday, Aug. 24 at Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind.          Burton said even his juniors and seniors will be seeing some new competition this season after having played a similar schedule for the past several years.          “We have confident and capable players for sure,” he said.          SIUE gets a brief taste of OVC soccer in its first venture into Division I women’s soccer. The first meeting with an OVC team is a weekend in Murray, Ky., where the Cougars face UT Martin on Sept. 5 and Murray State on Sept. 7. SIUE has other OVC road games at Southeast Missouri State on Sept. 13, Tennessee Tech on Sept. 25, and Eastern Kentucky on Oct. 24.          SIUE’s home games include Missouri-St. Louis on Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. the SIUE alumni at noon on Oct. 4.                   -siue cougars-
