SIUE Blanks SEMO 1-0
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Freshman Brittany Bodziak scored her first collegiate goal as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville defeated Southeast Missouri State 1-0 Friday night.
SIUE evened its record at 3-3 with the victory. SEMO fell to 0-3 overall. It was the second straight future Ohio Valley Conference opponent SIUE has defeated on the road.
Defense stepped up for the Cougars.
"The defense played real well. It wasn't just the back four. It was a total team effort," said SIUE Coach Derek Burton.
SIUE goalkeeper Kaci Backs picked up her second straight shutout with three saves against the Redhawks.
Bodziak put SIUE ahead at 62:10 on a give-and-go play from Jenny Kates. SIUE outshot the Redhawks 12-4.
SIUE is now idle until Sept. 25 when it travels to Cookeville, Tenn., to take on Tennessee Tech, also a member of the OVC.
