We welcome you to the web site of the  award-winning Department of Psychology at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. As a leading department in the St. Louis region, we offer a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in areas such as:
  • research design
  • statistics
  • learning, memory and cognition
  • biopsychology
  • social psychology
  • personality
  • human development
  • industrial/organizational psychology
  • clinical psychology
  • school psychology

In addition to our regular classroom courses, we encourage students to involve themselves in psychological research to learn more about how knowledge in the behavioral sciences builds. Field study and practicum courses are available so that students can apply their knowledge in psychological service organizations, agencies, and businesses.

The department offers masters degrees in the following areas: Clinical-Adult Psychology, Clinical Child and School Psychology and Industrial/Organizational Psychology. We also offer a Specialist Degree in School Psychology. All our graduate programs emphasize scientific approaches and strive to balance theory and application.

In recent years, our department and faculty have received numerous honors including:

  • In 2011, Dr. Thad Meeks won the Sigma Xi Researcher of the Year Award
  • In 2011, Dr. Stephen Hupp received a Teaching Recognition Award from the Office of the Provost
  • In 2009, Dr. Laura Pawlow received the Alumni Association's Great Teacher Award
  • In recognition of our efforts to assess and improve student learning outcomes, our department received the 2006 Award for Institutional Progress in Student Learning Outcomes from the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)
  • More than 40 graduates of SIUE's psychology department have gone on to doctoral programs in the last decade
